About

Dr Rhona Morrison is a retired consultant forensic psychiatrist, artist, award-winning author and professional speaker based in Central Scotland.

I spent more than 30 years working in the NHS with mentally disordered offenders. My clinical team affectionately called me ‘Dr M’ and it stuck! Following retirement in 2018, at age 55, I returned to my passion for art and built my own studio, where I now create beautiful, detailed, watercolour and pen and ink pointillism art.

Author / Book

Do you enjoy true crime, crime fiction, mental illness related themes or medical memoir?

If so, it is likely that you will find the content of my award-winning memoir, ‘ I don’t talk to dead bodies: the curious encounters of a forensic psychiatrist’, entertaining.

As an NHS doctor for over 30 years, who worked with mentally disordered offenders, I have a wealth of clinical experience , which includes work for the courts, prisons, hospitals and in the community. I regularly worked with murderers, sex offenders and violent, psychotic men. Of course, I also have my very own stalker!

Mental illness sometimes makes good people do bad things. It was my job to find them, treat them and rehabilitate them, without judgement, even if they had raped a child or murdered a pensioner.

This is an intimate, honest, eye opening, amusing, bizarre, scary , emotional rollercoaster of a journey inside my world as a forensic psychiatrist.

I am passionate about destigmatisation of mental illness. My aim is to entertain and educate, as well as to challenge your assumptions and mindset around this emotionally charged subject matter.

Gold medal winner in the Global Book Awards for my genre,  2023.

The book is available in paperback, ebook and audiobook versions (narrated by me!). It can be ordered via Amazon or any good bookshop.

Artist

Do you need a unique piece of artwork for yourself or for someone special?

Maybe I can help. I am an artist, based in central Scotland, who specialises in creating detailed, watercolour paintings and pen and ink pointillism drawings. I returned to my passion for art after I retired as a doctor in the NHS in 2018 and I now enjoy producing commission work, as I get to create unique, personalised artwork which connects emotionally with the recipient. I enjoy painting just about anything, except people! Most of my commissions feature much loved pets, favourite places or wedding venues, all produced following receipt of detailed photographs.

Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss a commission.

PROFESSIONAL SPEAKER

Do you need to book an interesting and engaging speaker?

Perhaps I can help. As a retired consultant forensic psychiatrist, with more than 30 years experience, and author of the award-winning memoir, ‘ I don’t talk to dead bodies: the curious encounters of a forensic psychiatrist’, I have a wealth of experiences to share with my audience. Intermingled with a series of funny, bizarre and scary anecdotes about mentally disordered offenders, murderers, sex offenders and stalkers, is a strong message being non- judgmental, person- centred and about the importance of destigmatisation of mental illness. I will challenge assumptions and mindsets around this fascinating subject area.

As an associate member of the Professional Speaking Association (Scotland) I have experience of delivering enrichment lectures on 5 star cruise ships, lecturing to students and delivering Meet the Author events around the country. (Within the cruise ship setting I am also happy to deliver pointillism art workshops. )
